Vitamin D is great for maintaining strong and healthy bones; it does this by retaining calcium. Vitamin D is also very active in regulating the immune system and immune cells; it is thought that it may indirectly help reduce the risk of certain cancers.

 

Signs and symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency can be seen with Hair Loss, backache, muscle cramps and joint pain and stiffness. If you are having low moods or depression ask your doctor to test your Vitamin D levels.

 

You can increase your Vitamin D levels by getting regular sunlight & eating the following foods:

 

Cottage Cheese,

Eggs,

Sardines,

Salmon,

Herring,

Mackerel,

Oysters,

 

You can supplement Vitamin D, using Cholecalciferol. Look for Ergocalciferol if you are Vegan. Vitamin D3 is best in a supplement form taken with Vitamin K2 to improve the absorption.

Note that Vitamins A, C & E help protect Vitamin D.
